T25 vs. Insanity
So you’re here because you want to read up on T25 vs Insanity. That’s great! In this article we’re going to cover everything you need to know about both of these programs, and which one will be best for you.
I’ve been getting a lot of questions from people who want to know if T25 or Insanity is better for them. So instead of answering them all individually, I figured I’d write up this post and then refer them to it. Both of these programs target completely different groups of people, even though they may seem similar in some respects.
Now, I have done a full review on Focus T25 which you can read by clicking on the link, so if you have questions about that program after reading this, then head on over there.
So, let’s get into it!
Differences Between T25 vs Insanity
T25 is designed to get you the best results possible in the shortest amount of time, whereas Insanity will get you into the best shape of your life, period. Now, those two things may sound similar, but let me explain.
Even though T25 will still get you great results, there’s only so much you can do in 25 minutes. Insanity will get you better results, as the workouts are generally a lot harder, as well as longer. So, the tradeoff between the programs is that you save time with T25 but maybe don’t get as good of results as you would with Insanity.
Here’s a quick breakdown of T25 vs Insanity:
|Program Details||Insanity||Focus T25|
|Length of Program||10 weeks||60 days|
|Workout Length||25 minutes||45-60 minutes|
|Number of Individual Workouts||11||12|
|Creator||Shaun T||Shaun T|
|Recommended Fitness Level||Beginner-Intermediate||Advanced|
|Good for weight loss?||yes||yes|
|Works well with supplementation?||yes||yes|
One of the best tips that I can offer, is that if you choose to purchase either program, then do it through Beachbody on Demand, don’t buy the DVD’s. If Beachbody on Demand had existed when I first started using Beachbody workouts like P90X, P90X2, P90X3, Body Beast, and a few others, I would have saved myself a lot of money.
Also, if you choose Beachbody on Demand, you can use any workout that you want. Literally, all of Beachbody’s workouts will be accessible. So, you’ll likely never get bored.
Focus T25 Overview
Focus T25 is a 10-week program that has 25-minute workouts. Each week you’ll be doing five workouts, which will consist of a variety of resistance training and cardiovascular training. There are 11 workouts total included in the program, which you’ll be using as the program progresses.
The biggest reason that people like Focus T25 is that the workouts are so short. This is great for people on a busy schedule. If you want to read my full T25 review, you can click on the link.
When you buy the program, the base kit will come with the 11 workouts that we mentioned previously, as well as two bonus workouts. T25 will also come with a diet plan, a quick start guide, to calendars to help you stay on track, 15 lbs resistance bands, support from Beachbody whenever you need it.
There are a couple more expensive kits that you can buy, but personally, I think the base kit is enough to get you started.
Insanity is a 60-day program, with an average workout length of just over 45 minutes. Obviously, this is program has much longer workouts than T25. As well as having longer workouts, Insanity will have you working out 6 times a week instead of 5.
Insanity doesn’t require any equipment to do the program, just a good pair of sneakers and some workout clothes. One suggestion from me is that you invest in a good heart rate monitor. This program will get your heart rate up very high, and to be safe it’s best that you monitor it so you can make sure you don’t overextend yourself.
Insanity also has 12 individual workouts that you will be doing over the course of the program.
The Base kit for Insanity includes the twelve workouts mentioned, a diet plan, fitness guide, the workout calendar to keep you on track with your workouts.
Again, I don’t think you need anything more than the base kit to get started and seeing results.
Who Can do Focus T25?
Focus T25 is really great for beginners or people with intermediate levels of fitness. It definitely won’t be challenging for more advanced people.
T25 also focuses more on resistance training that Insanity does. It has a nice balance of cardio and resistance workouts.
T25 is also great for people who are short on time that don’t have time to do a full hour-long workout.
Who can Do Insanity?
Insanity is for anyone who wants to end up with a puddle of sweat on their living room floor.. No joke, I can’t remember how many times I was dripping sweat onto my living room floor as a result of this program.
Insanity is easily the hardest cardiovascular workouts that I have ever done. It’s not great for resistance training, although there are some resistance moves in the program. But it is amazing for getting you into the best cardiovascular shape of your life.
There’s a lot of what’s called plyometrics in the program, which basically means high impact exercises. So if you have problems with your joints, then this program probably isn’t for you. Also, if you haven’t exercised in a long time, I do not recommend this program! It is extremely hard, and you may end up injuring yourself.
Differences in Diet Plans
To be honest, the diet plans for both of these programs are very similar. Both programs will show you how to calculate how many calories you need to be eating, and both will show you the best foods to eat in order to achieve your goals. There’s not much of a difference here.
Which Program is Best for Weight Loss?
This is a great question because the obvious answer is Insanity. But, it really depends on what your goals are. The answer to this question will rely on exactly how much weight you want to lose.
Both programs will help you lose weight if you’re in a calorie deficit. Insanity burns more calories than T25 by a long shot since the workouts are longer and more intense. Not only are the workouts harder, but Insanity will have your body burning calories LONG after the workout is already over. This is called the “after burn” effect. Overall, Insanity is better for weight loss than T25.
That all being said, you’ll still lose weight doing T25. If you’re a noob to exercise, then I recommend T25, as it will give you a good foundation from which to build upon while still helping you get results.
